Lightroom 4 is much slower than 3.6, so much so that many people are going back to 3.6. Do a search for "Lightroom 4 slow" and you will find many people complaining about this. I would wait until it is fixed before buying it.

They simplified the import (libary ) process. I felt this was the weak link, Light room always worked as a partial adjustment program. I have one problem it wants a new version 7 of raw which I have not been able to download for cs54 of 9 people found the following review helpful

I use Lightroom alot...in fact there was a point it was DOA with Adobe and they wanted to expand Bridge...big whoopee.I do international photography and some video. This is NOT a Video editing program but it lets you import and catalogue your video. Edit it in something else, but at least it is in the library, keyworded, GPS'd and capable of being exported.
I really like the new photo editing and actually I've saved a bundle not upgrading my CS4...that's a lot of money. The editing is really great and I like to edit.
But mapping! Wow, I go to some pretty outback places and take a map with me. Now I can get wifi, Google where I know I was and zero right in. Between that and metadata I almost have a journal. It takes my iPhone images and voila, I have a road map of where I took images even if I don't use them.
Seriously, this is good stuff. If you want some form of crapolla, then spend the money on Elements, which I still have yet to figure out let alone teach a small child how to use. I could teach my dog how to use Lightroom except he doesn't have thumbs and can't use a mouse. And he's a little color blind.
