Really, Really Happy With This Purchase!!,December 3, 2011

Pros
-----
Well built, feels very sturdy
Quiet operation
Smooth motion
Easy to select courses, duration, intensity, etc.
Gives amazing workouts
Has a nice e-book reader, which allows me to put my Amazon Kindle Fire on it, surf the internet, watch movies, listen to music, etc.

Cons
----
Took 3 hours to build, requires at least 2 people
The display is not back-lit, so depending on your room lighting it may be difficult to read
The mp3 speakers are laughable (my cell phone speaker and Amazon Kind Fire speaker are twice as loud and clear)
The fan is also laughable (I have it on all the time, but it barely moves any air, and you can hardly tell the difference between low, medium, and high)

Overall
-------
I wasn't expecting much from the display, fan, or speakers, and it's a shame they're all underwhelming. Looking past that though, the elliptical itself is amazing. Best bang for buck elliptical in my opinion. Would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a well-built budget elliptical. Really, the only reason I'm not giving it a perfect score is I hope Schwinn sees my Cons and improves them in later iterations of this product. But personally they do not bug me, and they shouldn't prevent you from making this purchase. I have a nearby computer with kick-butt speakers to get some music going. And the e-reader holder entirely makes up for the weak display. Toss a Kindle Fire in the e-reader holder, and you have a 7" touch-screen with everything you can imagine at your finger tips.

Purchased the Schwinn 420 for Christmas. In-the-box weight is about 170 pounds so you need help moving it around to unpack. Assemble was pretty easy and took about 1 1/2 hours. Comes with Allen wrench and Phillips screw driver on long end (wish they has separated the tools). The machine works fine, very quiet and easy to use. Why Schwinn/Nautilus would have designed such a poor console to track time, distance, calories, etc. is really beyond me. The display area is about 4 x 2 inches and is exceedingly hard to see. The numbers displayed are hard to read and seems to be reflected against the background so that you actually see two numbers offset from each other. Besides, the lines of the numbers are pencil thin and can only be read in good light. The fan is pretty useless as is the speaker array. There is a good place to hold an iPad or Nook and a huge area against which you could lean an iPad. The console will only keep track of the stats for one user; everyone else needs to use a "guest" designation and all stats are lost when the machine is turned off. Five stars for the machine, 0-1 for the console. Shame on you Schwinn!

Great, quiet workout elliptical machine,November 22, 2011
This review is from: Schwinn 420 Elliptical Trainer (2012 Model) (Sports)
I have been looking for an elliptical machine for a while, and the Schwinn 420 (2012) model does the trick. Great value and easy to set up, I have used this for a few months now with great results. The length is perfect at just over 5', so it works much better than larger machines for homes without much floorspace, like mine. The digital display is a bit tough to read (it is not backlit), but the workout and adjustable degree of difficulty is comparable with more expensive machines. Recommended.
